Cedar Hill's Haunted History Lantern Tour

Mark your calendars now to join us Friday, October 23 for Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's Haunted History Lantern Tour. Led by lanterlight, groups of up to 30 people will be guided to the final resting places of some Cedar Hill's notable AND not-so-notable residents. Character actors will share the true yet darker-side tales of these residents. This is the only night during the year that the Cemetery is open to the public. This spirited event is sure to be memorable. Palm readers will be onsite to read your future for $5.00. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Please come prepared by wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing a flashlight. The tour is nearly three-quarters of a mile in length and may not be suitable for children under 13!

Admission: $5.00 per person
Tiket Sales: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Tours: 7:00pm - 9:00pm, leaving approximately every 15 minutes

Notable Trees this Saturday!

Join us this Saturday, October 10, for Cedar Hill's Notable Trees tour. Led by tree expert Ed Richardson, guests will enjoy a tour of Cedar Hill's expansive tree population, including rare trees and state champions. Meet at the flagpole at the end of the entryway drive at 10:00am. This tour is approximately one-mile in length and will take one and a half to two hours. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. General admission is $5.00 and CHCF Members and Let's Go Arts members are free!

Communicating with Connecticut's Ghosts at Cedar Hill

Have you ever wanted to communicate with someone on the other side? Join us Saturday, October 3 at 10:00am as Elaine Kuzmeskus, director of the New England School of Metaphysics, discusses the art of mediumship and how to communicate effectively with spirits. Elaine’s presentation will be followed by a gallery reading. Reservations are highly recommended and those making reservations will receive priority seating. Symbolism Tour this Saturday!

Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's 2009 Tours and Events Season is more than half way over. Join us for our last summer event before fall "unofficially" begins. Founder of the Connecticut Gravestone Network Ruth Brown will be leading a Symbolism Tour at Cedar Hill on Saturday, Ausgut 29 starting at 10:00am. Meet at the flagpole at the end of the entryway drive and learn about the symbolism behind some of Cedar Hill's most beautiful iconography. This event is FREE for all!

Cedar Hill's Mystery Scavenger Hunt

Join us for Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's next event on Saturday, August 15 - our Family-friendly Mystery Scavenger Hunt! This event will have teams of up to four people each competing against other teams to find and follow clues to solve a mystery. Children are welcome to participate in this event that is a race to the finish! Prizes will be awarded to teams who solve the mystery the fastest. This event begins at 10:00am at the flagpole at the end of the entryway drive and is $5.00per person. Children under 12 are free. We hope to see you there.

Sunset Notables Tour - July 30 at 6:00pm

Cedar Hill: A Tour Behind the Scenes was a great success. More than 30 people joined long-time Board Director Russell Jones for a tour unveiling some of Cedar Hill's little known facts.

Mark your calendars to join us Thursday, July 30 for Cedar Hill's Sunset Notables Tour. Hear about some of the great stories behind Cedar Hill's notable residents and monuments as we traverse Cedar Hill's historic Sections as the sun sets over Cedar Mountain. This tour begins at 6:00pm, and we will be meeting at the flagpole at the end of the entryway drive. General admission is $5.00 and Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation members and Greater Hartford Arts Council Members are free.

Cedar Hill: A Tour Behind the Scenes

Mark your calendars now to join us Thursday, July 16 from 6:00pm - 7:30pm for Cedar Hill: A Tour Behind the Scenes. Since its establishment in 1864, Hartford's famous Cedar Hill has become a significant resource for the preservation not only of a stunning historic landscape and greenspace but also of Hartford's historic roots and colorful history. Join long-time board member Russ Jones for an informal stroll 'Behind the Scenes.' This tour will begin at the Chapel, go to the memorial grounds and conclude at the Chapel. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. General Admission is $5.00; CHCF Members and Let's Go Arts Members are Free.

UConn Alumni Association Social at Cedar Hill Cancelled

The UConn Alumni Association Social scheduled for Thursday, June 18 has been cancelled due to the continued threat of inclement weather. This event is expected to be rescheduled in the fall. Details will be announced once they are available.

Hats Off to Spring at Cedar Hill

Join us this Saturday for Hats Off to Spring at Cedar Hill. Victorian Lady Kandie Carle will use humor and wit as she discusses life and etiquette during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. In celebration of spring, she will also discuss the importance of hats during the Edwardian era, which will include a hat show by The Hat Place. Wear your favorite hat as prizes will be awarded for most beautiful and unique!

Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony

Cedar Hill Cemetery will be hosting its annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 25. Held at the flag pole at the end of the entranceway drive, this event begins at 10:00am with a reception and refreshments. The Remembrance Ceremony will begin at 11:00am with Boy Scout Troop 105 leading the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony. Cedar Hill Cemetery Board Directors will then speak the names of the people who have been laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery since last Memorial Day.

This event is open to the public. We welcome all to join us as we remember those who have passed over the past year and the more than 30,000 who have been interred at Cedar Hill since its establishment in 1864.

Even with the rain this past Saturday, a dozen people arrived at Cedar Hill at 6:30 in the morning for Jay Kaplan's Cedar Hill's Feathered Friends walk and talk. Jay spotted more than 70 species of birds during this early-morning exploration.

Cedar Hill Bird Walk this Saturday!

Join us for Cedar Hill's first public event of 2009! Cedar Hill’s Feathered Friends will take place this Saturday, May 9 starting at 6:30am. Bird expert Jay Kaplan will lead attendees on a walk in search of Cedar Hill’s many feathered friends. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars and sense of adventure as Jay will have you traversing through the woods and around the waterways for this tour.

This event is free for all and will meet at the bridge just after the entryway rotary. Happy birding!

The Galvanized Jazz Band Scheduled to Perform at 3rd Annual Run for the Roses

Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation is pleased to announce the Galvanized Jazz Band will be performing live Dixieland music at Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's 3rd Annual Run for the Roses. True entertainers in their field, the Galvanized Jazz Band has been recognized by Connecticut Magazine as the best jazz band in Connecticut.

The 3rd Annual Run for the Roses festivities will begin at 4:30 pm at The Hartford Golf Club with a two-hour cocktail social featuring the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby aired live from Churchill Downs, passed and stationary hors-d'oeuvres, an open-bar including mint juleps, and a silent auction. Following the race, guests will enjoy dinner and Dixieland music performed by the Galvanized Jazz Band from 7:00pm - 10:00pm.

CFPA to Host "Family Ramble" at Cedar Hill

Join the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association for a "Family Ramble" at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Saturday, February 28 at 10:30am. This unique stroll through Cedar Hill will introduce you to the Cemetery's notables, history and wildlife. This event meets requirements for Junior Girl Scout badge: Local Lore.

Hartford Track Club 4-Miler at Cedar Hill

Looking to get out of the house? Want to enjoy the cold, crisp air of winter? Need a reason to visit Cedar Hill? Join the Hartford Track Club on Sunday, February 8th at 10:00am for the Deirdre Bibby 4-Miler at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Awards will be given to the first three male and female finishers. Visit Cedar Hill

While for some it may seem like winter will never end, spring IS right around the corner. The beginning of February is nearly here, and soon we will be enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of spring's arrival. In the meantime, we invite you to visit Cedar Hill Cemetery and take a self-guided tour of our most notable residents and memorials. Inside the entryway gates, you can pick up a Cedar Hill Cemetery Guide for Visitors and enjoy Cedar Hill's exquisite art, history and nature from the comfort and warmth of your car.

We are also excited to announce that in March we will be launching Guide by Cell. A self-guide tour service that allows you to use your cell phone to hear about Cedar Hill's history and most notable residents. We will provide the full details once they are available.

Happy New Year

The arrival of 2009 brings another year of Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation working toward its mission. As a result, we have already begun to schedule our 2009 tours and events. This year's tours and events season will begin with the 3rd Annual Run for the Roses. Held at The Hartford Golf Club, this event raises unrestricted funds to support Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's many projects, including restoring the historic memorial artworks and offering educational tours and events to the community. This year's Run for the Roses will include viewing the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby live from Churchill Downs, hors-d'oeuvres, cocktails, dinner, a silent auction and live music. Joe D'Ambrosio, WTIC radio personlaity and voice of the UConn Huskies, will be returning as emcee and will be joined this year by WFSB Channel 3 news anchor Irene O'Connor.

The 3rd Annual Run for the Roses will launch Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation's tours and events season, which will include the Cedar Hill: Behind the Scenes tour, a Mystery Scavenger Hunt, Communicating with Connecticut's Ghosts, and our annually anticipated Notable Tree Tour with Ed Richardson.
